A common reason people abandon smart home systems is simple: too many notifications.
False alerts create stress. Stress creates avoidance. This guide helps you calm the system — while keeping safety strong.
Why False Alerts Happen
- Sensors placed near vents or airflow
- Direct sunlight hitting motion sensors
- Pets triggering motion or contact events
- Sensitivity set too high
- Too many overlapping rules
Step 1 — Fix Placement First
- Do not face sensors toward vents or heaters
- Avoid direct sunlight
- Angle motion sensors slightly downward when possible
Step 2 — Lower Sensitivity (Then Test)
Start at “medium.” Run for 48 hours. Adjust gradually. Avoid swinging from “too sensitive” to “not sensitive enough.”
Step 3 — Use Calm Alert Windows
- Night lighting alerts only at night
- Entry alerts only when home should be quiet
- Delay alerts by 15–30 seconds to prevent “one-off triggers”
Step 4 — The Calm Filter
Use this rule:
If an alert creates anxiety without reducing risk — redesign it.
Outcome: Fewer alerts, higher trust, and a system that people actually keep using.
